Personal Legend
Personal Legend is a storybook based on Paulo Coelho's book: The Alchemist.
As soon as we meet Santiago, we learn that he is no ordinary shepherd. Herding presents an unusual career for an educated young man, but Santiago is comfortable with his choice. Most notably, he reads regularly, which surprises the merchant's daughter. We also see that Santiago's stance quickly made him successful in his work. He has regular customers, buys books at will, and appears to be content with his lifestyle. Only his attraction to the merchant's daughter, who the narrator says is the first sign that Santiago's life will never be the same, makes him question his choice to be a travelling shepherd. The other character is Santiago's disturbing dream, which is not initially explained. Still, it always occurs while he sleeps under the sycamore tree that grows in the sacristy of the abandoned church.
Branching story - Interactive fiction is a story that can be told in multiple ways. The reader makes choices, and each new choice gives them more choices. They select an option, and the story continues, branching off into new pathways. Twine presents these as clickable links to pages and runs in your web browser.
In this game, we took Santiago’s story as inspiration to create a game in Twine that the user can interact with and make new choices every step of the way.
